Adios Mexico
March 10th, 2009 Posted in NewsWell the tour of mexico is done and gone. It was an unbelievably long week, over 32hrs of racing in fact. Probably one of the longest weeks I have done in a while. The transfers were epic; one day we had a 4 hour car transfer in the morning followed by a 200km stage finished off with another two hour transfer after the stage. It really is a great race with a lot of potential, but they do need to polish the logistics a bit. I don’t even know how our staff had time to get everything done. I was getting no more than 6hrs of sleep a night which means the staff was probably looking at a short two hours each night, so, a huge ‘thanks guys’ for all your hard work!
Stage one we lost the bike rack off the top of the team car. The roads were so rough that i think the rack simply vibrated loose and came flying off. The rough sections of roads were my enemy all week. My body was finally starting to really heal after crashing out of cali, but my ribs would absolutely kill every time I was trying to breath on the bumpy mexican roads.
After winning the race last year and winning the team competition Team Type 1 had some pretty high expectations going into the race. I know we left a bit disappointed but things don’t always workout perfectly and the entire team did our best. Now, we’ve all got a bit of rest and hopefully everyone’s form can take a step up.
I’ve got some time at home before my next block of racing. Speaking of home, Jen and I are closing on a new place in two weeks on the 24th. It’s all of 1 mile away from where we live now in Golden, so the move shouldn’t be too hard. A couple days of res, and then back to the training. At least the small local racing are starting up here in Colorado so it will be easier to get some intensity in.
