Epic Stage 3 in Austria
July 7th, 2009 Posted in NewsThat was a big day. One of my biggest of the year power output wise. It started off full gas on the first short climb, where the field split over the top. In the valley on the other side I got away with 9 others and we hauled ass and got a big gap. Even though quickstep had like 5 guys in the top 15 the were not represented along with the leaders team, Columbia. We went over some massive climbs, way up high to the snow, where it was raining, cold and windy. After some attacking the break was whittled down to 5 of us, and after the wet sketchy foggy descent with tunnels, like something out of a dream, it was only 4 of us. More attacking by a couple guys who figured the could ride the next 70 km to the finish alone, and it was me and a Fuji chasing one guy, with the 20 man “peloton” chasing us several minutes back. I was in the virtual yellow jersey for a while, but quick step decided to just ride hard with columbias race leader in tow, although isolated. Not sure why the didn’t just attack a lot until he cracked, but whatever. So, thanks to their brilliance, we didn’t quite stay away, and they never got rid of albasini. Not sure on their tactics on that one. Whatever….
I’m smoked and ready for bed. Thanks for checkin in
