Happy New Year

December 30th, 2007 Posted in News

Already I can see the light at the end of the tunnel of my offseason, and I feel like I’ve hardly even started training! I guess I’ve only been at it serious now for a little over a month. When you stop racing in October and start again in February, it doesn’t leave a whole lot of down time in between! Team Slipstream has our pre-season training camp in Silver City, New Mexico in January, and soon after that I’ll be off to Europe and racing already! Luckily I’ve packed quite a lot in lately though. My family and I went to Moab over the Thanksgiving break for a little hiking and mountain biking. A couple days later Loren and I adopted a new puppy from the Denver Dumb Friends League. She is a 3 month old cattle dog mix named Karli. She has been a lot of fun so far except for the midnight trips outside to “go potty.” The weather here in Boulder hasn’t been to terribly different than our infamous winter last year…its always cold and snowy! So I’ve been riding in the cold, riding the mountain bike, hitting the gym, and doing some snowshoeing and skiing. Last week I went on a 9 mile snowshoe adventure in the Indian Peaks with my former teammate Stu, on what was supposed to be my easy day. Should have known any trek into the woods with Stu wasn’t gonna be to mellow! At least we made it back before night time, barely. And don’t tell my director, but but a couple weeks ago we actually got a big group, 7 in all, of bike racers together for a day of alpine skiing at Copper! Yeah, that will probably never happen again. Even Ian, who hadn’t been skiing since the Junior Olympics in 2001 came out! It was like he hadn’t missed a day of skiing that whole time of course. Over Christmas we stayed in Boulder visiting our families, hopping from giant dinner to giant dinner. The day after Loren and I drove down to Wolf Creek in southern CO for a couple days of powder skiing, and it didn’t disappoint, with 2 days of knee deep fresh tracks. That was a good way to cap off my meager amount of skiing every winter!
And congratulations to my wife Loren for finishing up her student teaching, thesis, and masters degree in physical education! Now she can go get a real job!
Hope everyone has a great holiday season, thanks for checking in.
