more from oz…
February 1st, 2009 Posted in NewsThe tour down under spoiled us. I have to give a big shout out to the race organizer for this one, what a perfect set up for a lot of reasons.
1. I skipped training camp and left winter for someplace warm to be here. But we had a little training the week before and the riding in adelaide is pretty sweet up in the rolling wine country hills.
2. We stay the entire race in the same nice hotel at the adelaide Hilton.
3. Free wireless internet
4. Free flowing wine from Jacobs creek. But I was racing regime so none for me… Good for the staff though!
5. We can ride to The start and home from the finish nearly every day, hardly any car time.
6. There’s a sick market right out the hotel so the sougneirs can get food without going far and I can have sushi for lunch every day after the race!
7. Awesome post race bbq party.
8. The crowds were absolutely enormous! 140,000 people were on hand for the races in the city, and tens of thousands out on the open road and packing the climbs.
Definitely if you wanted to come catch a bike race this one would be ideal spectating. You could be in one place all week and watch the race several times a day and have awesome food and wine and scenery and beaches all over. Maybe see you down here next year.
So unfortunately that means the race hotel and race logistics situation is all down hill from here the rest of the season. With long transfers, crappy food, no sushi, cold weather, and long transfers. Oh well, good to start off nice though.
Thanks for checking in
