Post Tour of Missouri

September 17th, 2009 Posted in News

My Garmin team and I wrapped up a great week at the Tour of Missouri, with Dave Zabriskie taking home the win.  After taking the lead in the time trial we endured a couple really tough days defending the lead.  One stage was so fast because of all the attacks and wind that it was the fastest stage in North American stage race history! 30 mph for 180km!!  I cant think of many races in europe that approach that speed.  The final stage was a really tough circuit race in downtown Kansas City.  Like the rest of the week, there wasn’t a kilometer of flat in the whole stage, and we were attacked on every single hill almost.  But our team rode incredible and we fended off any attacks to keep Dave in the lead to the end.It was especially nice to win here because Garmin is based in Kansas City.  We really wanted to win in the back yard of the people that make our team possible.  Many of the employees were out in force to watch the last couple stages.  The day after the race we toured the Garmin offices and factory.  Its quite an impressive operation. Afterwards we rode with upwards of a hundred Garmin employees and acquaintances.  I was pretty done with hitting out in crosswinds after the week of racing but the Garmin group smacked it right into the gutter for a post race hour of throw down. Ouch! Thanks foe checking in
