Romandie Wrap Up

May 5th, 2009 Posted in News

We almost ended the week on a really high note.  Unfortunately close only counts in Bocci ball right? Anyways, the final stage in Romandie took in a couple massive climbs mid way through.  We rallied around our sprinter Tyler to keep him within shouting distance over the top of the last climb and then did a team chase to catch back onto the front group on the descent.  Several of the best sprinters were among the 70 guys dropped, so we got on the front and rode hard to the finish to ensure a whittled down group.  Unfortunately triple world champ Oscar Friere got the better of Tyler by a few cm to take out the win.  It was a really nice day of teamwork nontheless.A few hours in the car and Im back home in Girona.  Yesterday a few of us did some meet and greet stuff and pictures and filming with the Catalan TV station and local government.  Girona is excited to be home to the Garmin-Slipstream team as well as hosting a stage in the upcoming Tour de France.  They took us for a nice lunch of traditional Catalan fare and I even came home with a gigantic leg of Jamon Serrano!  Its gonna take me all year to eat it.  Luckily my dog is coming over here soon so she can nibble on the fatty bits.Next up is just a few days of recovery and then start getting ready for the Vuelta Catalunya here in  a couple weeks. Thanks for checkin in
