stage 1 over, now im really back!!!

January 20th, 2009 Posted in News

Just wrapped up stage one of TDU this afternoon with a field sprint in searing heat after an unfortunate incident with a couple km to go left our man Julian with an exploded rear wheel, a new bike, and out of the sprint. Surely there will be another sprint for him this week though. For me I was happy to get the first real race under my belt and keep it rubberside down, much like a certain lance Armstrong I’m sure.
But yeah you know after 10 months out of the bunch today was a good test of my timing and coordination. This summer after my brain injury I was a taking driving skills course to get my license back and at the hospital they were timing me to see how fast I could put blocks in a bucket with one hand. I graduated those tests, so I guess ripping a shadowy decent with 140 guys at 90 km hour and jockying for position in the finale is the next step in the process right? Well anyway that all felt well and good so another question mark erased for me!
I’m looking forward to tomorrows stage as it finishes on a really tough and hilly finish circuit that will suit our team well. Ill certainly be testing the fitness tomorrow that’s for sure!
And a BIG thanks to my family and friends, my team, and my doctors for getting me back to this point. I’m truly lucky to have my career back and to be able to put this injury behind me!

Thanks for checking in
