Tour of Austria stage 2
July 7th, 2009 Posted in NewsTodays stage was an important GC deciding stage finishing on top of Kitzbuhel horn. It was a really hard climb, finishing on grades of 22 percent. Not sure what is harder, racing up it or ski racing down Kitzbuhels infamous Hahnenkham Downhill! We even took the gondola back down from the summit. It took almost as long to ride the lift down as it did to climb up…that’s a big hill.
It was raining all day and we had 2 Garmin riders in the breakaway so we didn’t have to do much back in the field. I had a flat tire near the end but after a wheel switch my teammates had me back at the front for the start of the climb. It was so fast and aggressive into the bottom of the climb you would have thought we were in the final few km of a field sprint! I had an Ok ride and finished in 16th. There are a lot more stages and some hard ones at that so I don’t think the GC is decided yet.
Thanks for checking in
